SURGERY AGAIN! Mirna Johnson has been a best friend for 10 years. We have gotten each other through many crisis, including major surgeries. Hers and mine. But for the last three years she has had one problem after another. All the medical emergencies she's had has drained her bank dry. I started this fund with the hope that everyone could help this wonderful woman through her financial crisis.
Two years three surgeries. It’s been a hard 2 years. After a fall in 2016 which caused a torn rotator cuff, doctors prescribed physical therapy, but because the pain was too severe, therapy couldn’t be done. After four months of uncontrolled pain a new doctor said her shoulder needed surgery. Surgery was followed by uncontrolled constant pain and 5 months of the inability to work. Then in September surgery was required on the same site for frozen shoulder. Again, post surgery was marred by the inability to tolerate pain relieving drugs.
All through 2017, she lived with her right shoulder increasing pain each day. Finally in October the doctor diagnosed the problem as another frozen shoulder and another surgery. And again extreme pain post surgery but this time she had to return to work almost immediately.
Now a total knee replacement is needed. This is a painful surgery with a long recovery. It’s a difficult situation for most people, but with all the trauma her body has endured it may prove to be even more difficult for Mirna. In additional to the physical demands, she will be out of work for 6-8 weeks minimum.
All of these injuries and surgeries are complicated by CRPS (Complex Regional Pain Syndrome) This condition is a malfunction of the central nervous system, keeping all the nerves inflamed and sending constant pain signals. There is no cure of this condition. And if that isn’t bad enough, she has an allergy to almost all pain medication. Nothing ever takes away the pain.
All of these surgeries, MRI’s, genetic testing, pain doctors and physical therapy has depleted her bank account and maxed out her credit cards. In order to have the surgery the doctors feel it necessary to deaden her leg nerves with an injection. This injection cost $633! and it’s not covered by insurance! Her upcoming knee replacement is stressful in itself, so we are asking everyone to help relieve some of the mental stress to help pay for the fourth surgery and the after care that comes with it.
Mirna has spent 10 years caring for others, family, friends and crime victims, with disregard for her own health. She never says no to someone in need, but never asks for help in return.
