Patrick Hoey - Hope4Hoey

On July 29, 2023, 20-year old son, brother, and friend Patrick Hoey was enjoying Keuka Lake in upstate New York when his life and the lives of those who love him were changed forever. Patrick dove into the lake and fractured his C5 vertebrae causing severe damage to his spinal cord.

Sinking face first in the water, paralyzed, the actions of his friends saved his life. Patrick was immediately transported to Strong Memorial in Rochester, NY for immediate and intensive emergency surgery. His long-term prognosis is still unclear at this time. As soon as possible he will be transferred to Magee Rehabilitation in Philadelphia, to begin a long road of recovery with the hope of regaining feeling and movement in his upper and lower body.

Patrick is a loving son of Ed & Diane, an incredible brother to his 3 younger sisters (Rennie, Ashley & Lindsey) and a happy, active, rising junior at Penn State University majoring in Enterprise Risk Management. He is also a proud graduate of Devon Elementary, T/E Middle School and Conestoga High School. He and his family are faithful, active members of Saint Matthew’s United Methodist Church. As his friends and sister Rennie plan their return to Penn State for classes, football games, THON and parties, this Nittany Lion will be tested by working relentlessly all day every day to regain his function and mobility. This is yet another obstacle in the road as Patrick has already survived a rare neuroendocrine tumor with surgery just last summer.

If you know Patrick, you know his smile, his generous nature, his compassion, and his warm heart. What you will come to know is his determination. He will battle and get back to lead a healthy, productive life.

The cost of his medical care will be astronomical even with insurance. We don’t want to think about it now but rehabilitation, transportation, and home modification expenses in addition to work leave, at home care and travel expenses will be some of the future expenses the Hoey family will experience.

Many of you have already asked about providing a financial gift support. A GOFUNDME page has been set up for Patrick Hoey. Any support you can provide would be extremely helpful and gratefully appreciated. Your support means the world to them and especially Patrick.

Thank you for your kindness and compassion.
