Let’s face it, life is not always fair and never what we expect. Those of you who know Pat and Cheryl, know that they have both worked hard in creating a life together. But now Pat is facing an impossible foe with glioblastoma. Glioblastoma is an aggressive form of brain cancer; it is not going to be cured. The radiation therapy might hold it at bay for a couple more months than they are hoping for. He also isn’t able to return to work at his plumbing business because of the damage the tumor did prior to surgery. He can’t drive, he can’t remember what he was doing 5 minutes after he starts. He can’t even explain what has been happening since 6 weeks ago when the headaches and confusion started. (Don’t be surprised if you get some unique story from him about going on a retreat to Pennsylvania or upstate NY, where a friend did the surgery.) Cheryl is taking care of Pat since he cannot be alone as he might wander off or forget to turn off the stove. And with her MS, she was limited in the hours she could work before this all happened.
So, there is no rainy-day fund. And right now, the weather has turned for the worse. If you can find it in your heart to donate to help ease their financial stress with upcoming expenses, including his memorial service, please do. If you can’t afford to help financially, Cheryl could definitely use some time away from the house to go to the grocery store, run errands, etc., so if you can call her and tell her you can come by and keep Pat company for a couple hours once in a while, that would be appreciated. And say a little prayer for Cheryl and Pat.
