Pat - Stroke Rehab & Healing

Donation protected
I never thought I'd find myself doing this or HAVING to do this but several friends suggested it and really encouraged me to do so because we are struggling financially.  Pat started his own fireplace and wood, pellet, and gas stove  business last Fall. During the summer months, he was staining decks, landscaping, mulching, etc. He was working like a dog because that's what he does.

He  thought he injured his leg Sat., Aug. 11 while working outside at a customer's house in Reisterstown.  For the next 3 days, he couldn't walk.  Tues night I called 911 because he was saying some things that just didn't make sense and they transported him to Upper Chesapeake where they admitted him for a urinary tract infection and sepsis.  After many x-rays, CT scans and MRIs, nothing was showing the cause of his  left leg pain so the doctors also did a bran MRI which showed a small spot on Pat's brain.  This either meant he had another infection in his brain or he had a stroke about 7-10 days ago and he worked through it because he did not know.  The doctors said we would just have to wait until the infection went down and got more of the IV antibiotics before we knew for sure.  Pat stayed at the hospital a week because he was still having periods of confusion, was getting IV antibiotics and they were running many tests to confirm stroke v. infection in the brain.

Pat came home Tuesday but still cannot put any weight on his left leg nor lift his left leg.  He cannot walk without a walker right now.  The nurse and physical therapist are coming to the house tomorrow.  The nurse will come 2 x week for 3 weeks.  Tomorrow is the first visit the physical therapist but currently we have no idea when Pat can return to work.  Best case scenario, according to the doctor at discharge, is four (4) weeks  after Pat is completely done the antibiotic on September 19, 2018. I am currently giving Pat the antibiotic injection every eight (8) hours via his PICC line along with two (2) saline flushes and a Heparin injection, three (3) times a day through September 19, 2018.

We are struggling financially and I have absolutely no idea, between our household bills and medical bills, how we are going to possible stay afloat because we are starting to drown now.  Any possible resource offered through the County I have sought.  I have called all of the bigger churches in Harford County that offer help.  I was either told they could not help us or they had no funds at the time.  Unless you are in the process of being evicted, no church in Harford County will help you.  We are not far from that point.

Pat will follow up with the neurologist who saw him at the hospital in 3 weeks and the infectious disease doctor in 2 weeks as well as his primary care doctor next week but Pat is starting to get a bit depressed because of our money situation..  You don't realize how scary it can be until you have no money coming in and your spouse is out of work. The day Pat thought he hurt his leg he was doing landscaping work in 95 degree heat with a urinary tract infection and sepsis, a poisoning of the blood stream, and having suffered a stroke at some point a week earlier!  We were told Sunday morning that Pat almost died.

Any help you can give is appreciated. Any help - even a little is a HUGE help.  We still have a 17 year old at home and we are really struggling financially.  Medicare will not pay for a home health care aide to help during the day so I am helping Pat at home during the day with his meds, bathing, helping to feed him, making his meals, etc. and trying to work in the evening so I can take care of him during the day.

All of the money donated will go to our household bills and medical bills.

Thank you.  Peace.
