Pat and Laura's Road To Recovery

On Saturday, July 1, 2017, Patrick Greenwood and his wife Laura, were involved in a terrible motorcycle accident and were seriously injured. They were on vacation with friends and were traveling back home along the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia. An oncoming vehicle lost control, crossed the center line, and collided head-on with Pat and Laura. Both were life-flighted to the trauma center at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke Virginia.

Pat and Laura both suffered extensive injuries. Pat has a broken pelvis, two broken legs (one with compound fractures), broken ribs, a broken ankle, large lacerations that required many staples, and multiple cuts and bruises. Laura has a shattered pelvis, compound fractures on her leg and arm, fractured vertebra, broken ribs, a broken ankle, large lacerations, bruised lungs, numerous cuts and bruises, and internal injuries to her kidney, liver, and spleen. Pat has undergone two surgeries and Laura has had four to date. Due to the severe injuries on their legs, they may need additional surgery.

Because of their many serious injuries, they are faced with a long road to recovery and extensive rehabilitation. With both of them being immobile, they will need some assistance until they are back on their feet. They are currently in a rehabilitation facility and then will most likely be transferred home for further rehabilitation. They are both on leave from their jobs and it is indefinite as to when they will be able to return to work.

In addition to the physical and emotional toll caused by the accident, Pat and Laura will be faced with financial burdens. Many of you have reached out asking how you can help this wonderful couple, outside of your prayers. As a result, the family is setting up this GoFundMe account as a way for friends and family to show their love and support to Pat and Laura. The donations will be used to help with medical expenses, lost wages, physical therapy, remodeling costs to make their house handicap accessible, and other unforeseen financial expenses while they are on the road to recovery. With your financial assistance, Pat and Laura can focus on their rehabilitation and getting healthy and strong. They have incredible faith, and a wonderful family and friends to support them on their journey to recovery.
