Continue the legacy of Pastor Sarah Hanson Nietz, who died Aug. 24, 2016, through a new initiative called Extending the Table: Sarah’s Invitation.
You didn’t just meet Pastor Sarah, you encountered her: her laughter, her joy, her passion, her hope and her faith. Wherever you encountered her, she made space for you. She was passionate about extending the table, making sure there was a place for everyone.
Sarah was especially passionate about the church. She saw what it can be and how it needs to change. Sarah knew that for the church to be a more faithful witness to God's mission in the world, it needs to more fully embrace the leadership gifts of women clergy.
Extending the Table: Sarah’s Invitation will gather women clergy to discern what God is doing in, with, and for the church as they lead in a time of change. It will carry on Pastor Sarah’s legacy as it draws women together and strengthens them for leadership at all levels of the church. The Pastor Sarah Nietz Memorial Fund will financially support Extending the Table by funding networking events, retreats and speakers. Thanks to those who gave at Pastor Sarah's memorial, there is already $25,000 established for this initiative. The additional $30,000 will allow us to endow this fund.
This gofundme campaign to raise funds for In memory of Sarah is organized by Sarah's friend of 20 years, Amy Zalk Larson, and her recent colleagues, Ashley Osborn and Regina Hassanally, (all living in Iowa and Minnesota, where Sarah went to college and practiced ministry). It has the full support of her husband Dan, also of Minnesota. All funds given will be used toward Extending the Table: Sarah's Invitation, an initiative aimed toward women in leadership in all levels of the church, subsidizing the costs of retreats and events.
The Spirit of God worked in Pastor Sarah’s generosity as she encouraged and celebrated the gifts of others for the sake of God’s world. Join us in carrying on this legacy.
