Passing of a Hometown Legend

Donation protected
Many of you know that "Mighty" Mike Quinn passed on Memorial Day. My name is Kellie Quinn, the younger sister of Mike. Mike was born and raised in Brockton, Massachusetts, also known as the city of champions. I can proudly say that my brother was certainly a champion and to many friends and family a complete and absolute legend.

Mike's fitness journey began at the ripe age of 15. Who would have thought his successful journey began in our damp cellar on the east side of Brockton. His trainer was my dad, Robert Quinn. My dad recognized the incredible strength of my brother and decided to take his training to the next level. He trained at the YMCA, Center City Gym, The Iron Gym and LA Nautilis in Rockland. The path to his future was beginning to unfold. Mike's popularity began to rise quickly. He won the titles of Mr. Teenage Massachusetts, Mr. Teenage America, Mr. Florida, Mr. USA, Mr. Universe and placed 5th in the #1 competition in the bodybuilding industry, Mr. Olympia. My brother's intensity, enthusiasm and charisma are what made him one of the most exciting bodybuilders to step foot on any stage. The audience absolutely loved him. To hear the spectators cheer him on and give him standing ovations, set the tone to get him excited to aim high and shoot for the stars. Sadly, the dream was put on hold with the sudden death of our baby sister, Kathleen. And subsequently, the dream ended after he suffered multiple injuries. His mind and body could not return him back to the successful path he once was on.

My brother was not only well-known on the stage. He would help anyone with their training, nutrition, and posing. He would offer his expertise and would never ask for anything in return. It was an act of kindness to show his appreciation of a sport that he devoted his life to. This is just an example of how my brother gave from his heart. He just wanted people of all ages to succeed and love the sport as much as he did. The expertise and knowledge from my late father trickled down to Mike, me and my boys; Ryan and Shane. I stepped on stage ten years ago and I will be forever grateful for my brother's guidance and knowledge when I trained to compete.

That is who my brother was. He was compassionate about animals, Boston sports, politics and a huge movie buff. He was intense, intimidating, and over the top, but what many don't know is that he was mostly a big giant teddy bear. If he had his last dollar in his pocket and you needed it, it was yours. As far as us Quinn girls nobody bother us, he was the protector along with his other big gym buddies. We were the "Mighty" Mike Quinn sisters. I don't think anyone even knew our name lol. He enjoyed intimidating our boyfriends, funny not funny. My brother's favorite song was Party Train by the Gap Band, which he used many times at the start of his posing routine. Also was our favorite clubbing song at Sanctuary's. His posing hands down matched his Soul Train rhythm dance style. It was a sight to see the mighty giant clear out the dance floor. He was always famous for saying two favorite lines; "Oh My Gawd" in regards to mostly everything and "Rock n Roll Brothah" while sitting in the crowded bleacher you could hear him shout this to cheer on his nephews during their sporting events. He was definitely a mommy's boy. His ultimate favorite meal was spaghetti and meatballs made by our mom.

No one is ever prepared for a sudden death; financially or emotionally. I made this GoFundMe to help with his unexpected medical expenses, funeral expenses, a celebration of life and to give back to Adult and Teen Challenge in Brockton, MA; which provides life-changing hope for addicts and their families. I know many of you have great stories to tell about my brother "Mighty" Mike, and soon you will have the chance to share them at his celebration of life at Lighthouse Point Gym in Lighthouse Point Florida, date to be announced. The family would like to thank you for all the love and support during this time.
