Parowan Playground Equipment

Donation protected
Parowan Elementary PTO is a nonprofit corporation dedicated to improving education by promoting the welfare of children.  Each year we organize fundamental programs and events to directly benefit the students of Parowan Elementary such as Red Ribbon Week, Dental Health Month, RAMdom Acts of Kindness, and many more.

THIS YEAR, IN ADDITION TO THE PROGRAMS AND EVENTS WE HAVE ORGANIZED FOR YEARS, WE ARE RAISING OVER $43,000 TO INSTALL PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT FOR OUR SECONDARY GRADES (3RD – 6TH).   This is a critical project for our school.  Since the school opened in 1961, our secondary grades have NEVER had a playground set.

Despite the lack of playground equipment, the 400 amazing students at this school (grades K-6) are learning what it means to be kind and give back.  This year, the Parowan Elementary PTO initiated a new program.  So much of the world today is filled with hate, but at Parowan Elementary, we have launched a program emphasizing that KIND is the new COOL.  The newly initiated RAMdom Acts of Kindness program (the school mascot is a RAM) is our way of encouraging kids to Choose Kindness.  We have been using this program to teach our students that their choices DO make a difference, that EVERY action matters, and by working together we CAN make our world a little brighter.

Teachers and staff members give Kindness Cards to students when they catch them doing something kind.  These cards are drawn for special prizes, and special RAM Awards are given to students who display extra acts of Kindness.  However, the most important, component of our program has been a  monthly, school-wide, service project to encourage selfless giving.  These projects have benefited both local agencies and strangers, and have been designed to support the belief that we can choose to BE THE GOOD in the world.  By looking for ways we could help others, we have been able to truly see how much we have to give.

This year our projects have included:

Santa in September - We packed and delivered 75 large postal boxes to Hill Air Force Base to be shipped to soldiers for Christmas.  Items were donated by students, the community and the PTO.

Let's Hear it for Kindness - A special fundraiser was held to raise funds for one of our teacher's.  Her daughter got cochlear implants and we held a special fundraiser to help cover the cost of this very expensive surgery.  We were able to raise $775 in just two hours at our McDonald's fundraiser.

Can Castles - In coordination with our local food drive, each class built a Castle out of cans.  A competition was held and awards were given, then each class personally delivered their cans to our local center.

Penny War - Girls Vs. Boys in an epic Penny War.  The boys ended up winning, which meant that the girl teachers got Pies for Pennies, but the real triumph was the check we donated to our local Sub 4 Santa program for $850.

The Christmas Candle Play -
Fifty-five students and a host of volunteers produced a play based on the book "The Christmas Candle" by Richard Paul Evans.  The play was free for the community as our Christmas gift to those who have given so much to us.

Secret Kindness Agents - Each student in the school was given a "mission" of Acts of Kindness that were designed to help our school become more kind.  If they completed their mission, they were allowed to enter their name into a drawing to win a laptop donated by a local family.

Smiles for Strangers - Each student in the Elementary was given the opportunity to paint an 8x8 canvas painting in art class.  The materials were donated by the PTO.  Once completed, students had the opportunity to either purchase their canvas for $5 (all proceeds were donated to the Art department budget) or have their painting donated to Senior Centers and Extended Care Facilities in Iron County.  Over 300 paintings were donated to help bring a smile to a stranger!

This wonderful group of students has been an example of selfless giving month after month.  Now we would like to ask for your help as we try to give back to them.

Through our fundraising efforts this year and generous grants from both the Iron County School District   and Parowan Elementary, we have managed to raise $25,000.   This is a pretty BIG DEAL in a community where our all our schools qualify for Title I funding because of low income.  However, our window to be able to purchase and install this equipment is shrinking as the end of the school year approaches.  We need to raise $20,000 in the next few weeks to be able to purchase the equipment in time.

At this time we are reaching out to ask for your financial support.  We will not be able to complete this project without your help!  Please make a donation to help us reach our goal of providing new playground equipment for our elementary students and the community!

If you are willing to support us in our efforts to secure a new playground, please donate today!  You can donate here, or by visiting our website parowan.my-pto.org .  Information regarding corporate level sponsorship is also available on our website.

ANY donation will make a difference!  Our wonderful student's will be able to enjoy this new equipment for years to come, and they will learn one of the most valuable lessons in life... a lesson we have been trying to help them learn all year...

Kindness is like a boomerang...  when we do kind things for others, kind things are done for us in return!
