ΑΤΩ and AXΩ's Packaging Hope

On Sunday October 8th, the brothers of Alpha Tau Omega and sisters of Alpha Chi Omega will host the first-ever Packaging Hope Event at the ATO chapter house. Teaming up with Fear 2 Freedom, the brothers and sisters will spend the day assembling after-care kits to be donated to victims of sexual assault in local hospitals and care centers.
Fear 2 Freedom is a global non-profit dedicated to redeeming and restoring those wounded by sexual assault, as well as changing the cultural understanding surrounding the issue. Fear 2 Freedom accomplishes this mission by partnering with university organizations in hosting events that educate the community in addition to assembling after-care kits. These kits contain appropriately sized clothing, toiletries, a personal handwritten note, and other essentials. After-care kits are especially crucial to victims considering how patients undergoing standard PERK (Physical Evidence Recovery Kit) exams are required to remove and discard all clothing as evidence - leaving victims deprived of essentials in their moment of greatest trauma.
Whereas typical philanthropic efforts at the University of Maryland focus solely on raising funds, Packaging Hope presents a unique opportunity for the brothers and sisters of ATO & AXO to tangibly give-back in a personal, hands-on way! Each kit physically assembled at the our event this Fall will find its way into the hands of a survivor of sexual assault - directly inspiring hope and faith in members of our local community.
With funds generated from previous events this Spring, we are proud to announce that we have already raised $6,000 towards Fear 2 Freedom. If we reach our current goal of $5,000 by September 15th, we will have raised enough money to purchase, assemble and donate over 300 personalized after-care kits!
