Delbert's battle with Cancer.
Don protégé
My name is Clarissa and I've started this page for my Dad, Delbert Pacholok. On August 10th, 2020 he was diagnosed with cancer.
Gastroesophageal junction adenocarcinoma, a rare type of cancer in the area where the esophagus and stomach join together.
He also has signet ring cell carcinoma. This cancer causes mucin (a very thick, gel like mucus) which he is constantly regurgitating up. He has lost over 50 lbs from not being able to keep most of his meals down.
Beginning of June we began noticing he wasnt eating full meals and having a hard time swallowing. He brushed it off as acid reflux.
June 28th he roadtripped to Vancouver and was vomiting during the drive. From then on he couldn't eat or drink water without it coming back up.
June 30th he was admitted into the hospital where tests began.
The doctor did a scope of his esophagus and stomach, taking a biopsy of the mucin and he also had a CT scan. The biopsy later confirmed he has cancer.
After speaking with multiple doctors we have been told a 15 - 20% survival rate of long term living (5 years).
It's a very fast progressing cancer and has him at stage 3 in only a few months.
September 23 was his first round of chemotherapy. He will have 4 rounds of chemo in two months, surgery to remove the tumor and another 4 rounds of chemo over two months after recovery.
The surgery is called Esophagectomy.
Part of the esophagus and part of the stomach will be removed. The remaining stomach will be pulled up into the chest or neck and become part of the new esophagus.
He will need to relearn how to eat and his way of living may be changed forever. The recovery time for this surgery can be 3 to 4 months.
This will be a long road of treatments and recovery for him.
My dad is a very hardworking, loyal family man and has never needed to ask for help like this from anyone.
I've started this page because he will not be working for the foreseeable future.
Any and all donations made will help with loss of wages, monthly expenses and medical bills.
We appreciate any help during these hard times.
Thank you, the Pacholok Family.
