Hi folks, my name is Romy Keuwo and you’re reading this message as a plea for help as the love of my life (Rayven Ray) and I have been experiencing a medical crisis with our pup, Mia Ray.

Mia Ray (brindle colored pup) is a 3 year, 10 month old French Bulldog and the older sister of Lily Ray (the fawn colored pup). Rayven adopted Mia at just 14 weeks old and she has lived in Kansas for the majority of her life, before recently moving to Chicago, Illinois with us to pursue new jobs in the summer of 2022.

On Sunday, September 25th, Mia was hospitalized due to labored breathing, constipation, lethargic behaviors, and significant weight loss. She was brought to a vet ER in order to undergo some testing. Through her blood work it was revealed that Mia is hypernartemic (high sodium levels in the blood), hyperchloric (high levels of chlorine in the blood), and hyperglycemic (high levels of blood sugar).

Ultimately, Mia was hospitalized for 24 hours and given fluids to try and fight her high blood level concentrates. Fortunately her sugars and chlorine levels decreased. However, after 24 hours, Mia’s sodium level still remained at 180+ mg, which we were told could result in neurological damage and brain swelling if untreated. Although it was determined that she presents with normal organ function, it was also suspected that she may have diabetes insipidus— a type of diabetes in which patient’s experience frequent thirst after drinking copious amounts of water, frequent urination, and a complete loss of appetite. All these findings although consistent with what we have observed, has only put diabetes insipidus on the list of “possible” diagnoses, but it has not yet been confirmed that this is her actual prognosis.

After 24 hours in the vet ER, Mia was taken back home, after being approved for a transfer to another vet ER with more specialties (i.e., internal medicine physician, a criticalist, internist, neurologist, and etc.). Upon her arrival, the initial medical opinion of the vet revealed to us that at this stage in Mia’s care, our only options are to keep her hospitalized for 24+ hours; depending on her response to treatment or letting her cross the rainbow bridge.

As fellow pet owners may already know, this has been extremely traumatic and taxing on both Rayven and I. In it’s suddenness, these abrupt medical expenses have also put significant financial strain on us as recent graduates. Currently our expenses are being covered by Carecredit, however in the case that Mia must stay for over 24 hours at this current location, we will have maxed out our Carecredit.

The huge ask and plea for community help is to cover the expenses of the fees that have and may continue to arise from Mia’s hospitalization. In being realistic, we want to do everything that we possibly can to give Mia a fighting chance at surviving and managing this new found illness. It would mean the world to us if you all would please consider donating and/or sharing this GoFund.
