Childhood Cancer

Maggie who is 15  has always had a very strong and persevering attitude.  While most kids her age are starting to attend school with the COVID-19 adjustments, learning to drive a car and indulging in all other teenage activities Maggie and her family have had to redirect their lives. Maggie at 15 years old has been diagnosed with Mucoepidermoid Carcinoma. They have found a tumor in the top of her mouth that is cancerous. Maggie has had several MRIs and will have several more as a team of oncologist meet to determine the best plan. The doctors have said she will need multiple surgeries so that they are able to safely remove the tumor and eventually do reconstructive surgery because they are removing her palate.  During this she will be placed on a feeding tube in the ICU for what the doctor is saying a minimum of a few days (it will depend on how surgery goes and how her body heals). We are still waiting to hear more answers from CHOA and if they will need to bring in an adult doctor from Emory. Maggie has kept her upbeat amazingly strong outlook on life as she is facing circumstances no child should ever face. As she continues to go along in her journey she will need things to make her comfortable and to help make this very difficult time a little easier on her. Her family has already taken time off from work but Maggie will need her parents extensively in the coming months. There will be deductibles, gas, missed work and so many unforeseen things at this time.  Please help bring a little peace to Maggie and her family in such a very hard time.
