Story
My name is Liesl Tauschinger-Dempsey, and at 12, I am the youngest dancer to be invited to join the Rock School of Dance's Professional Program for 2018-19.
My future is dance, and I have worked hard to be able to devote as many of my waking hours to it as possible. I love the beauty of ballet; I love to communicate through movement; I love to tell its non-verbal stories; I love the physical challenges; I love learning to use my body to say anything through a language that can be appreciated by all.
I started studying ballet when I was 3. As soon as I was old enough, I began attending summer intensives with the hope of being accepted into a full-time ballet program. When I was 9, I participated in the summer intensive at the Gelsey Kirkland Academy of Classical Ballet in New York City. The following two summers, I studied at the Bolshoi Ballet Summer Intensive in nearby Connecticut. This summer, I participated in the Rock School of Dances’s 6 -week summer ballet intensive in Philadelphia, at the end of which, I was asked to join their Professional Ballet Program. My dream for years has been to get into a program like this one. My experience with the Rock School has made me feel totally inspired, excited and ready to work harder than ever to become a professional dancer.
I am hoping to be able to raise enough to cover the cost of room and board because my parents, who live and work in Durham, NC, cannot move to Philadelphia. My family has made great sacrifices for me to continue my ballet studies, and my mother, who is an educator and a performing artist, works 7 days a week to cover costs, but without outside help, this amazing opportunity remains out of our reach.
I've been told that the kindness of strangers can be amazing and know that dance can change people's lives, so I'm hoping hard that lots of small contributions will make the difference. Please consider contributing!
