Caring for the Caregivers

It has been shown time and time again that we sacrifice as a parent, a daughter, a son, a grandparent, and as a friend. Craig & LaEtta are givers, and have continued to show that kind of love all their lives. Truly whenever they can help anyone…they do it with generous hearts.

We will all be or need caregivers some day, & it reminds me of this quote:

Beginning it’s 5th month on this journey for our friends and during this time, we see that a mother’s love is like no other love. LaEtta has been and continues to be her oldest daughter’s caregiver in Los Angeles, California. Traveling to follow wherever Sarah’s medical needs take her…from LA to Orange County, Back to LA, to Orange County again for acute rehab hospital & back to LA Cedars-Sinai’s hospital. Situations like this can take its toll physically and emotionally.

On 12/1/22 when Sarah had her heart attack, LaEtta was there on 12/2/22! As more family came to be by her side, little did Sarah’s family know that for at least the next 5 months that Sarah would need LaEtta daily by her side as her advocate.

During mid-December LaEtta, Sarah, & Anna had a Heart Transplant Education meeting, applied for housing POST-TRANSPLANT, not knowing when that will happen. Sarah is required to live within 5 minutes of Cedars-Sinai for at least 3 months post transplant. So thankful the application was accepted and provided by a donor organization to families based on need.

All of this time leading up to & during the transplant process is all out of pocket expenses. Hotels, rental car, parking, laundry mats, meals, groceries, gas, etc….

Sarah has insurance for most of her medical bills, but LaEtta’s living expenses and housing are not included.

This GoFundMe aims to help LaEtta & Craig financially take care of housing and living expenses while caring for Sarah during the wait time for her heart transplant. Estimates vary due to most everything being high in LA….hotel expenses alone have averaged $4-5K per month over the last 4 months. That includes LaEtta asking hotels for hospital rates to help with expenses.

This is where LaEtta & Craig who have recently retired, could use your help. Let’s help give back to them for 5 months plus 2 more. For 7 months, that would be about $35,000. Please share this link with everyone.
