Wendy's Road to Recovery..

Hi my name is Alicia Milne and I am asking for your help to get my Step Mum Wendy some funding towards her road to recovery. I first met Wendy 11 years ago when my dad fell head over heals for her. Up until recently they both had the world at their feet, Wendy having a successful career at Radio Ballarat as a Senior Account Manager and Dad owner operating a local Engineering Company. Both loving and hands on grandparents to 7 all under the age of 5! On the 28th November, 2015 Wendy and Phil attended Wendy's sons Shane's wedding, little did they know that this would be their last social event they would attended before Wendy fell ill. On the Sunday after the wedding Wendy did not feel herself and put it down to too much wine! On Monday 30th November, Wendy was getting ready for work when things started to go downhill, she first developed respiratory distress and then panic sent in when she developed declining use of her fingers when trying to get help. A trip to the emergency room saw their world fall down around them. After being admitted to ICU for further testing it was soon confirmed that Wendy had contracted Meningococcal W Disease. This is a very rare condition affecting only 10 people Victoria in 2015, that is less than one in a million chance! After spending about 7 weeks in hospital, Wendy was allowed to come home but everything as she knew was not the same. Wendy had developed nerve damage to her fingers and toes and unfortunately will undergo surgery to have 8 of her fingers and a majority of her toes partially removed. All money raised will go towards helping Wendy return to a somewhat normal life for things such as prosthetic fingers, reconstruction, home help and general medical expenses.
