Mental illness is a complicated thing. For some, it's depression that can be managed by talking to a professional once a week. For others, it's something that requires lifetime care and medication. For Robert, it's bipolar disorder that has left him with a need to take a complete break from the everyday responsibilities of life and live in a residential mental health facility for a few months. He needs a medical team that can provide the help and tools to manage this diagnosis and learn how to live a fulfilling life...a life that feels worth living.
We struggled. We debated. We looked for other options. To ask others to help with support for something as stigmatized as mental illness is incredibly difficult. But we hope in doing this, we will be a small part of a much larger movement to destigmatize it. It's also hard to ask people for help because, at the end of the day, we all have our problems and struggles. Nobody gets a pass for a perfect life. That is why we hope to use the power of social media to get this in front of 2,000 people who can each donate $10. We know. That's a LOT of people. It will take a lot of shares.
