On Friday, March 13th we lost our fun, charming, and beautiful Shawna. She had been suffering from depression. Although having been such a strong and independent woman, she kept hidden how deep her pain truly was. The loss is felt by all of us who were fortunate enough to have been in her life.
There are many ways to show your love and honor our beautiful Shawna. This site has been set up to honor her and her memory in the following:
1st- By being aware and reaching out to those around you who might be suffering from depression. Depression is a serious, but treatable disorder that affects millions of people. It gets in the way of everyday life, causing tremendous pain, hurting not just those suffering from it, but also impacting everyone around them. When a family member or friend suffers from depression, your support and encouragement can play an important role in his or her recovery. Remember not to judge or to think they can just "snap out of it."
Depression drains a person’s energy, optimism, and motivation making them feel isolated and worthless. It may be hard to believe that the person you know and love would ever consider something as drastic as suicide, but a depressed person may not see any other way out. Depression clouds judgment and distorts thinking, causing a normally rational person to believe that death is the only way to end the pain he or she is feeling. Do your research on what depression looks like and assist the hurting around you to get the help they need.
2nd- By supporting her partner Wayne and their 2 year old son Emerin who just lost his Mommy. Being a single parent while also grieving the loss of your partner is unimaginable. Any amount you can give will help her family tremendously.
