Beirut in shock as deadly explosion adds to suffering from Covid19 and economic crisis

FUNDRAISING OBJECTIVES
Following Lebanon’s recent apocalyptic catastrophe that took place on 4 August 2020, IRAP is urgently raising funds to respond to ‘any call’ from people in distress in order to help, support, and accompany those who have just lost their homes, families and livelihoods.  This includes opening up its existing school grounds to provide interim housing, food, and medical supplies, as well as mental health services to help each community member achieve a stable and new  'normal'.

 ABOUT IRAP
Founded in 1960, IRAP today invests in sustainable social development marrying grass-root initiatives to birth local education, health, and work programs.  The organization is self-funded through its programs and employs persons from the very communities it serves as it supports 500+ families including orphans, parents of children in distress, families from Beirut’s poorer suburbs, as well as families-friends from the South of Lebanon whom it welcomed and assisted during the 2006 war.  Originally, the organization focused on educating and assimilating deaf children (and their families) to prepare for their entry into and success in the traditional economy. Since, IRAP has expanded to provide general support to families in need from an economic and social perspective.

ORGANIZATION ETHOS
Community-driven, IRAP’s ethos is to weave an integrated and beautiful tapestry that encompasses all ages, genders, and sects. In essence an organization for the people, by the people.

 NOTES
My name is Jenifer Abi Hamad and I am based in Los Angeles. This campaign serves to raise funds for IRAP (http://iraplb.org/), a notable organization in Lebanon run by Janine Safa (Founder & Director). Due to the banking crisis in Lebanon, funds are being raised in the US and will be 100% sent to IRAP’s direct account.  Funds will be spent on opening up its existing school grounds to provide interim housing, food, and medical supplies, as well as mental health services.
