Our Strong Girl Lynay Grace Dial

Donation protected
On March 21, 2015 our little baby girl was born with her lower half open. She has OEIS complex which consists of an omphalocele, cloacal extrophy, and enclosed spina bifida. In short, many of her organs are on the outside of her body and she is one of the rarest medical cases in the country.

We knew in advance that she was going to have some of these serious medical issues thanks to modern technology and although there were doctors who tried to pressure us into having an abortion, we knew that God's blessing was on this perfect child. Lynay is an acronym for Love Your Neighbor As Yourself, a creed that we live by and Christ's 2nd most important commandment just under loving God with all your heart. (Mark 12:28-31)

She was born 5 weeks before term at Oregon Health Science University in Portland, Oregon. Her first surgery occurred at three days old where doctors put most of her organs back in place and open a colostomy for her excrement. She has done better than any of the doctors could have hoped for and is on the road to a full recovery but there is a catch. She still has her lower half mostly open with an exposed bladder and liver. She is currently under care at the Doernbecher Neonatal Care Center on campus and we spend every spare moment with her but in order for her to thrive, we will need to take her home.

This poses a few problems and is the reason we started this page.

First, in order for her to be safe in our home, we will need to create a completely sterile environment to minimize the risk of infection to her open lower half.

Second, she will be needing at least two more surgeries, one in 6 months to close her bladder and reconstruct her hips, and one in several years to repair her spina bifida.

Third, we live almost two hours away from the NICU and will be needing to meet specialists and consulting surgeons for the next several months leading up to her major surgery.

These things are what all money we raise will be going to. We will use some to create a sterile environment in her room and prepare our house for her medically fragile state. The rest will go into a health savings account to help us pay for all the surgeries, specialists, and travel that we will be enduring as a family for the next several months and years. We thank you so much for considering support of our little girl. Whether you are able to give monetarily or not, please consider taking a few moments to pray for our sweet girl, her big brother Samuel, and my wife Shannon and I as we embark on this great adventure of love and care. Thank you for taking the time to read this and for all your support.

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” –Matthew 19:14
