Our Saturday Talks - A Short Film

Donation protected
Our Saturday Talks is a short film about two women who, through talking weekly, unexpectedly become empowered by their deepening friendship and discover what truly loving relationships look like.

My name is Faith Lavon and I wrote this short film about my friend Ryan Angel and I's consistent, committed Saturday talks during the pandemic. I had no idea how much my need to tell this story would impact others and the more I spoke of it the more people around me supported the sharing of this story. The response has been very encouraging partly due to the film’s slice-of-life elements that are both difficult at times and funny. The kind of funny that makes life a little bit better and a little easier to swallow when you want to scream and never stop.

As a black woman, it is important that my experience is normalized and shared as a universal experience. My black experience, in essence, is a relatable way of life for everyone. And although I have had traumas in my life, traumas don't define my life. They are not my only story and they are not the bravest of my stories. It is the every day that threatens to take us all under. It is the every day that encourages us to keep going. It is the every day that implores us to be brave and deal with our lives as they are. This short film is an exploration of the every day.

Our goals for our film:

  • To begin to normalize the black woman’s experience as a universal story
  • To show more stories of POC that are relatable to the human experience and, therefore, universal
  • To show that true friendship is not about the color of one's skin but about a deep empathy for the differences we all share in our daily experiences and how much in common we truly have
  • To make you laugh and think, (but mostly laugh)
  • To showcase diversity in all areas of our film both in front of and behind the camera
  • To pay our team fairly and equitably
  • To have a (wildly) successful festival run and be able to attend the ones we are honored to be a part of

We would love and appreciate your assistance in achieving our goals. Your kind donations will go towards:
  • production: cast and crew hires, the two-day shoot, props, catering - you know the drill
  • post-production: editing, color grading, sound mixing, music - all the things to make it shine
  • film festivals: festival entry fees, deliverables and travel - the delicious icing on the cake

All donors donating $25 or more within the first 72 hours of this fundraiser will receive a special invite to the first (virtual) screening when allowed. Any donation of $500 or more will have their names included in the credits. Any donation of $1000 or more will receive a co-producer credit.

Please share and spread the word. Thank you for your time and your support!
