Our Loving Mother, Grace Madalo Thangata

Dear Friends and Supporters,

I am Hope Thangata, and I am reaching out to you with a heavy heart and a pressing need for financial assistance. Recently, my beloved mother, Grace Thangata, passed away after a courageous 7-month battle with cancer. Her untimely departure has left a profound void in our lives and in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

We find ourselves in a difficult spot, not solely due to financial constraints, but also because of the intricate and costly logistics involved in repatriating a loved one without the necessary next of kin present to navigate these challenges abroad. This is why your support is crucial in helping us honour Grace's final wish—to be laid to rest alongside her family members in Malawi.

After a successful surgery and four sessions of chemotherapy completed by end of December 2023, she was due for a further 4 sessions of chemotherapy, dependent on recovery to allow her body a chance to regain strength. Two weeks before her passing on February 17 2024, she was taken into the emergency at Royal Berkshire Hospital, and a week later transferred to Sue Ryder's Duchess of Kent Hospice; her prognosis was very short.

Grace was not just a mother; she was a vibrant soul who touched the lives of everyone she encountered. Her journey to the UK was one filled with hope and resilience, seeking better opportunities for herself and her family. However, her passing has left us facing the harsh reality of the arduous process of planning her repatriation to her home country of Malawi, without the presence of immediate family members. Some of the challenges of diaspora living.

The funds raised through this campaign will be used to cover the expenses associated with Grace's funeral arrangements and repatriation process. From transportation costs to legal procedures required, every contribution will make a meaningful difference in alleviating the financial burden on my family during this difficult time.

From the bottom of my heart, I want to express my deepest gratitude to each one of you for your kindness, support, and generosity. Your contributions, no matter how big or small, will help us honour my mother's memory with the dignity and respect she deserves. I kindly request that you share the link to this page with your network to help us spread awareness and reach our goal.

Thank you for standing with us during this challenging time, and may your kindness be repaid to you tenfold.

With heartfelt thanks,

The Thangata Family
