Our Chapis needs surgery
If you know Maria, you know Chapis "Chaparrito/Shorty", her kind, patient, and loving companion for the past 13 years. Chapis has always been at Maria’s side, providing some mischief but mainly unconditional love. For the past 5 months, Chapis has been in Virginia with Maria, providing emotional support while she helps care for her first granddaughter (Elizabeth Maria Munoz), born this February. Maria and Chapis have extended their stay due to Covid-19 precautions and the family has benefited from her and Chapis’ company, support and love.
On June 18th, Maria began to notice Chapis was acting strange-- he began refusing to eat and was lethargic. Chapis tends to lay about, but never misses a meal! After extensive exams (x-rays, blood work, and ultrasounds), the veterinarian diagnosed Chapis with a mass in his spleen that must be removed as soon as possible to prevent eventual rupture.
Chapis will undergo surgery on July 3rd with the estimated cost for the surgery alone to be approx. $5,000. We have started this GoFundMe page on behalf of Maria to help with the cost that Chapis' upcoming appointments and surgery will incur.
Chapis has been a gift to our family and community. We are asking that you please send healing thoughts and prayers for Chapis and if possible some financial relief towards the cost of the surgery and immediate post operative care. Any amount will be deeply appreciated.
