Our Brutus needs help!
Our sweet Brutus is only 2 years old. We adopted him from a shelter a little over a year ago. He was so scared and afraid of so many things, but with a lot of work and a lot of love, he began to slowly trust us. He knew he found his forever home and parents along with a dog brother and sister! He is the most friendliest dog and very loving and loyal. He's a 108 lb lap dog! He gets so excited when the kids and grandkids visit. He loves to steal the babies toys!
Back in June, we started to notice he was sitting in a weird position and had trouble getting up. He would cry when he jumpedup/off furniture. We had some tests done and found out some terrible news. Brutus has old fractures in both of his front legs, bone spurs in the front joints, causing pain, mild hip dysplasia in both hips, and partially torn ACLs in both back legs. We are most certain he was abused along with hereditary issues that are common with this breed.
Last month Brutus got worse. As the day went on he couldn't even get up. We have to pick his rear end up for him. He cries and struggles. Turns out he completely tore the right ACL that holds his knee joint in place so the bones/plates rub causing pain, inflammation, and arthritis. His only option is a surgery called TPLO. One side alone costs $6100. But here's the kicker- after getting one side fixed the other side that has the partial tear ALWAYS becomes a complete tear due to the stress and strain all put on the leg while the other leg heals. So between the 2 surgeries, medicine, and follow up scans is going to cost about $12,000. There are no other options to fix this.
Brutus is only 2 years old and doesn't deserve all he has gone through. He has become a huge part of our family but we can't afford to pay for this huge expense on our own. He deserves a chance. Any amount would help get him the surgery and the reliefhe needs. Unfortunately, if he doesn't have both fixed his quality of life will continue to decline and it's hard to say but he would have to be put to sleep. At 2 years old he deserves a chance and my family and I are asking for all the help he can get. Even if we raise more than half we can supplement the rest. Brutus and our family are asking for your help. Thank you for reading his story and thank you for caring.
