At our 20 week ultrasound we found out we needed to go to Vancouver to see specialists about our daughter possibly having something wrong with her heart.. At 22 weeks we found out our daughter has something called tetralogy of fallot. A heart defect that causes her blood to pump only through the right side of her heart , her aorta to be turning the wrong way , a small hole between the left and right side , and for the valve flowing blood to her lungs to be narrow.. As scary as it sounds thankfully it is repairable.. but she will need open heart surgery between 4 and 6 months old and again when shes older to replace the valve as unfortunately it will begin to leak .. We are needing to travel back and forth from our home in Powell River to Vancouver once a month until I am 36 weeks. We will then need to relocate close to the hospital for the rest of my pregnancy since I need to give birth in the Vancouver BC womens hospital so we can be close to the BC childrens hospital in which our team of cardiologist specialist work. We will need to be monitored for a few weeks after birth and will need to return monthly until she is between 4 and 6 months old for her first surgery and then every so often after that in order to make sure the surgery went well and she is healing .. I can no longer work due to being such high risk , and my partner will need to take the time off work to be with me since I need an escort at all times while in Vancouver incase I go into labour and there is no way he can make it from Powell River to me in time. This has all been an extremely overwhelming and nerve racking experience.. But she is strong and kicking and growing like crazy in there.. We have been so grateful for all the love and support we have received so far.. anything to help would be extremely appreciated! Thank you so much ❤
"Aujourd'hui, nous avons découvert que notre fille a quelque chose appelé tétralogie de Fallot. Une anomalie cardiaque qui fait que son sang ne pompe que par le côté droit de son cœur, que son aorte tourne dans le mauvais sens, qu'il y a un petit trou entre le côté gauche et le côté droit et que la valve qui fait circuler le sang vers ses poumons est trop étroite. Aussi effrayant que cela puisse paraître, c'est heureusement réparable... mais elle devra subir une opération à coeur ouvert à l'âge de 6 mois seulement, puis à nouveau quand elle sera plus âgée pour remplacer la valve... Nous devrons faire l'aller-retour entre Powell River et Vancouver une fois par mois jusqu'à la date prévue de mon accouchement, le 6 février 2021, puis nous devrons rester à l'hôtel ou dans un airbnb. Sa condition devra être surveillée et nous allons devoir y retourner tous les mois jusqu'à ce qu'elle ait six mois pour sa première opération, puis tous les mois par la suite afin de s'assurer que tout s'est bien passé et qu'elle guérit... Tout cela se passe juste après les vacances des Fêtes, et pendant une période où je ne peux pas travailler, et mon partenaire devra prendre un congé pour être près de moi lorsque j'accoucherai, car je n'ai droit qu'à une seule personne dans la chambre et il n'y a aucun moyen qu'il puisse me rejoindre à temps en restant à Powell River. Heureusement, nos traversiers sont couverts, mais pas notre logement, notre nourriture et notre essence pendant que nous sommes à Vancouver. C'est une expérience extrêmement éprouvante pour notre jeune famille... tout ce qui peut aider serait extrêmement apprécié." Merci à l'avance de votre aide précieuse <3
