Support our 44th Jean Pictet Competition journey

We, Abijeet Adhikari, Aarya Dhital, and Shristi Gautam, first and second-year law students pursuing B.B.M.-LL.B. and B.Ec.-L.L.B. at Kathmandu University (KU), Nepal are proudly representing our institution at the 44th edition of Jean Pictet Competition, and are reaching out for your support to fund participation.

The competition, scheduled from 19 April 2024 to 26 April 2024 in Pokhara, Nepal provides unique hands-on traineeship in International Humanitarian Law (the Law of Armed Conflict).

Since 1989, the Jean Pictet Competition has aimed to promote the knowledge of International Humanitarian Law among law students worldwide and its applicability in contemporary scenarios. Unfortunately, the registration fee alone, exclusive of all other costs, stands at a whopping €500 (i.e. USD 546.37/AU$812). We have managed to cover €200, (i.e. USD 218.55/AU$325) for the registration fees via our family funding's however, we still fall significantly short of the additional €300 (i.e. USD 274.65/AU$487.5) required for this competition.

Therefore, the burden of registration fees looms large; as the amount of scholarship allocated by the committee to support the registration fees of teams in need appears insufficient this time, according to the competition's administrator, Mr. Christophe Lanord.

Despite being first and second-year students, we surpassed all other teams in the internal rounds at our university and secured a place in the top half during the early application phase of the competition, globally. Additionally, our application’s quality has successfully earned us a 60% scholarship from the organizing committee reducing our registration fees from €1250 to €500, emphasizing the value, merit and significance we bring to this endeavor. However, without specialized training in IHL, which is not included in our university curriculum, progressing further in our careers becomes challenging.

This competition offers a unique opportunity for us to gain the necessary expertise and contribute to the Human Rights and Humanitarian Law landscape in Nepal.
Hence, any amount of support from you will fuel the flames of our flickering ambitions.

P.S. - The GoFundMe platform does not support donations directly into Nepal hence, the current crowdfunding is being managed in Australia by a close family member.
