250th Anniversary - Peter Francisco
Donation protected
In 1765, my great-grandfather was kidnapped at the age of 5 from the town of Porto Judeu in the Azores and he never saw his family ever again.
He was then dropped off on a dock in America and put to work as a slave on a plantation in Virginia.
His name was Peter Francisco and even though men had evil plans for young Pedro God had a beautiful plan for Peter’s life. You see, Francisco grew to be a 6’6” giant and he became a hero in the American Revolution.
He fought from 1776 to 1781…the entire war…and he was wounded 6 times and left for dead twice. He was so big that George Washington called him the “One Man Army” and even had a 6’ broadsword made for him.
Today, there are 5 US monuments that stand in his honor, 8 states observe Peter Francisco Day, and he was enshrined on a US stamp in 1976.
This year is the 250th anniversary of Peter’s kidnapping and I’m working with the Portuguese government in the Azores on building a monument on the waterfront in Porto Judeu close to where he was kidnapped.
This will be a 3 foot bronze statue of a young boy playing, and it will preserve Peter’s legacy for many generations to come. The statue will be sculpted by a famous artist in the Azores, Rui Goulart.
But, I need your help to make this happen. The cost of the bronze statue is $11,000 and any dollar amount you can give will help.
$5, $10, or $20 would be a HUGE help. But, if you contribute:
$25 - I’ll send you a 5x7 picture of the monument in Porto Judeu
$50 - I’ll send you a small plaque with a picture of the monument in Porto Judeu
$100 - I’ll send you my award winning documentary of Peter Francisco and you'll be entered into a raffle for 1 person to go to the Azores for the unveiling of the monument this June.
Please help me commemorate Peter Francisco’s life with this monument. Together, you and I can accomplish something extraordinary!
