Operation: WALK by Faith, Prosthetic Leg Fund

Troy Milton—our son, brother, nephew, cousin and friend—needs us.   On Christmas Eve 2018, Troy’s right leg was amputated just below the knee.  Troy has been battling diabetes since the early age of 18 when he was diagnosed during his medical exam to attend college.   Despite this medical hurdle, he went on to attend Jackson State where he majored in Music Education.   As his young life coursed along, Troy changed directions in his career path and attended the prestigious Cordon Bleu School of Culinary Arts.  Thereafter, he was a chef for seven years at the Whitney, Iroquois Hotel on Mackinaw Island, Detroit Athletic Club and Motor City Casino.  Troy loved his work as serving and meeting new people are very important to him.  Due to multiple foot surgeries caused by diabetes, Troy was no longer able to stand for long periods of time and, thus, unable to continue to work as a chef.  Nonetheless, Troy wouldn’t and couldn’t be stopped.  “I can’t stand,” he said, “then, I will serve people sitting down.” His unwavering desire to help people led him to Wayne-Metro where he provides tax services to the underprivileged. And in 2018, Troy returned to his first love, education, and began studying Special Education at Eastern Michigan University.

Because Troy has dealt with so many foot emergencies, procedures and surgeries, when he went to the ER on December 23, 2018, he thought another run-of-the-mill infection had settled in his foot.  He was shocked to find that the infection had travelled and would require amputation of his leg.  He was devastated but triumphantly announced that he would meet the surgery head on and the sooner the better.  “Let’s get this mother###@! off, then!” he shouted in victory mixed with a whole lot of anger.   In that moment, and to this day, Troy was and is, just ready to be better.

Troy’s time has come.  With a prosthetic leg, a new, better life awaits him.  Let’s help Troy walk into his new, better life.  He needs our financial assistance to help him pay for his new prosthetic.

Troy’s insurance requires the patient to pay for 50% of all durable medical devices, including prosthetics.  He will need to have a preliminary prosthetic for about 3 months.  Thereafter, he will be fitted for his permanent prosthetic.  The estimated cost of both prosthetics is about $20,000, of which Troy will be responsible for $10,000.  The additional $2,000 is requested to cover any incidental medical expenses that may arise.

Thank you so much for your generosity and your help.  When we band together to help one another, we are all walking by faith!
