Do Thi Thanh Trang is an 11-year-old girl living in Phuoc in the Binh Dinh province of Central Vietnam. She lost one of her legs three years ago in a car accident when heading into town to do some shopping. After months of hospitalisation, she was finally released, but with only one leg and without a prosthetic in place of the other leg.
Fortunately, she is due to receive a prosthetic limb, however, she needs to have an operation to restore her reproductive organs, which were severely damaged in the car accident. The operation, which can only be done at one of the largest hospitals in Ho Chi Minh city, will cost the 70 million Vietnamese dong, which is equivalent to US $3,000. Her family’s farm only earns 1 million Vietnamese dong each month, and the operation is not covered by insurance as it is being done outside of the family’s usual place of residence.

Do Thi Thanh Trang wants to be successful when she grows up so that she can take good care of her parents, and she is studying hard to achieve this goal. Her favourite subject is literature, and she loves reading comic books.
