Shakela, 16, Jamaikanerin sucht: normales Leben

Dieses Jahr im April durfte ich bei meinem Urlaub in Treasure Beach, Jamaika Denzill und seine Tochter Shakela kennenlernen.

Denzill ist einer der herzlichsten und ehrlichsten Menschen die ich bei meinen Urlauben auf Jamaika getroffen habe.

Er arbeitet dort als Hausmeister auf mehreren Grundstücken um sich den Lebensunterhalt für seine 16-jährige Tochter und sich zu verdienen (dieser deckt teilweise nicht mal den täglichen Bedarf an Nahrungsmitteln ab).

Shakela ist schwer an Skoliose (Unter Skoliose versteht man eine dreidimensionale Deformierung der Wirbelsäule. Sie führt zu einer oder mehr weniger deutlich sichtbaren Fehlhaltung. Bei der Skoliose zeigt die Wirbelsäule eine seitliche Verdrehung) erkrankt und macht ihr das Leben unter diesen Umständen dort alles andere als leicht. Da das Gesundheitssystem, anders als in Deutschland, alles andere als fair und nicht für alle zugänglich ist, hat sie aktuell keine Chance auf eine Operation geschweige denn auf eine Therapie.

Ständige Schmerzen und eine massive Einschränkung im Alltag sind Shakelas tägliche Begleiter. Sie musste ihre Hobbies wie Leichtathletik und Netball (ein basketballähnlicher Sport der auf Jamaica unter jungen Mädchen und Frauen weitverbreitet ist) aufgrund voranschreitender Skoliose inzwischen aufgeben.

Natürlich ist es für ein 16-jähriges Mädchen auch nicht leicht "anders" auszusehen in diesem Alter.

Ich versuche nun meinem Freund Denzill zu helfen und das nötige Geld zu sammeln um Shakela eine Operation und somit endlich ein schmerzfreies und normales Leben zu ermöglichen.

Ein Bild von ihr dürfen Denzill und ich leider nicht verwenden, da sich ihre Mutter schämt im Internet um Geld zu "betteln". Falls ihr irgendwelche Informationen von mir benötigt ob das Ganze hier auch wirklich so ist, lasst es mich einfach wissen!

This year in April I met Denzill and his daughter Shakela while on vacation in Treasure Beach, Jamaica.

Denzill is one of the warmest and most honest people I've met on my vacations in Jamaica.

He works as a caretaker on several properties to earn a living for his 16-year-old daughter and himself (sometimes this does not even cover the daily food requirements).

Shakela is seriously ill with scoliosis (scoliosis is a three-dimensional deformation of the spine. It leads to one or more less clearly visible incorrect posture. In scoliosis, the spine shows a lateral twist) and life under these circumstances is anything but easy. Because the healthcare system, unlike in Germany, is anything but fair and not accessible to everyone, she currently has no chance of an operation, let alone therapy.

Constant pain and a massive limitation in everyday life are Shakelas daily companions. Due to advancing scoliosis, she had to give up her hobbies, such as track and field and netball (a basketball-like sport that is widespread in Jamaica among young girls and women).

Of course, it's not easy for a 16-year-old girl to look "different" at that age.

I am now trying to help my friend Denzill and collect the necessary money to enable Shakela to have a surgery and thus finally have a pain-free and normal life.
