Help build a rural medical centre to save lives

Donation protected
During my most recent visit to Bangladesh (Noakhali district) I witnessed first hand the difficulties that the people of this district face when needing medical care.

I would like to create a medical centre because there is not an adequate medical facility locally, and no ambulance service that can be relied upon to deal with care. When individuals need to be seen urgently, by the time they reach care it may be too late.

Whilst my mother was receiving palliative care, for stage 4 cancer,  in her home there were no medically trained staff available to administer the drugs she needed to relieve her symptoms. When looking for someone to come it would have taken over 3 hours for the appropriately trained member of staff to reach her. When you need someone daily for care, this is not at all practical and quite often they wouldn't be available as they have to work in the medical facilities across the area.  For patients, like my mother, who could not physically travel, a medical service would be life saving. To have a medically trained member of staff who can get to peoples home or at least more local to them would be an essential life line.

Coming from the UK I was horrified by the conditions of the hospitals and lack of medical facilities for the more rural locations.
The two links, below, highlight the problems the hospitals face and the desperate need for good medical facilities. https://www.dhakatribune.com/bangladesh/nation/2019/06/12/9-injured-by-noakhali-hospital-ceiling-collapse

I truly believe that a more local medical centre, will not only benefit my family living there but the entire village population and surrounding areas. The medical centre could be a lifeline for many who really need the care and treatment. More accessible medical help could really save lives. Income is very low in these areas so even if they could travel, they may simply not be able to afford to get there. A local facility for treatment is of paramount importance for all.

Sadly my mother passed away, so I would like to build this facility as her memorial. A lot of the pain and suffering she went through towards the end of her life could have been avoided with better healthcare. It was frustrating and heartbreaking for me to witness and I would like to help others that may face the same situation in the future. Being a part of bringing help and possibly life saving facilities to an area is such desperate need would be truly special for not only myself and family but everyone in the local area.

UPDATE

Due to the COVID - 19 , my plans to travel to Bangladesh, this spring, have been postponed.

I have spent some time researching all aspects required to get medical centre up and running.  I am now in a position to share the estimated costs  and phases to reach our objectives.

Phase 1-  Building the  medical centre.  The plan is to build on top of an existing building (second floor)  which in return will reduce the cost. The estimated cost for this will be between £5000 - £6500.

Phase 2- Fixtures and fittings. To equip the medical centre with all essential medical equipment  £1000 - £2000

Phase 3- Hire a Doctor and a Nurse (initially on a 1 year contract).  This will cost approximately £6000 (Doctor £3500  and Nurse  £2400).
