Onwualu Family Flood Relief
Donation protected
It's rainy season in Nigeria which comes with the risk of flooding but this year has been pretty bad in the federal capital of Abuja where my folks live. The estate that our home is in was flooded this morning. The river on the other side of our house swept away our retaining wall and submerged everything in 6 feet of water. My family has lost everything.
As proud people, it can be very difficult to admit we need help, but we do. We are completely devastated by this loss. The cars were floating in the yard, my father's fishery is completely gone, my mother's merchandise is completely gone. My mother's shop has served as the sole source of income for our family since my father retired and now all her merchandise is destroyed as well. They have no wallets or clothing or phones... just utter chaos.
While Nigeria has a disaster relief organization, it is poorly run and severely underfunded which makes the prospect of federal assistance quite low. So anything you can to do help my family with shelter, food, clean up and recovery would be greatly appreciated. Every little bit helps.
We are beyond grateful that no one was hurt but we're stunned by the utter destruction. Please share and help the Onwualu family get back on their feet. Our need is pretty urgent and our need is great. It's going to take a village.
Thanks in advance for contributing and sharing <3
The rubble of the retaining wall and one of our cars submerged
The kitchen is completely destroyed. All the food in storage is gone.
The debris and submerged vehicles in the yard
The couches and curtains in the living room
The bathroom shows just how high the water got
Clothing and personal belongings all gone
