One dollar education fund campaign

Globally 130 million girls are not in school? In sub-Saharan Africa, 32.6 million girls are missing in classrooms and this number rises to 52 million when taking into account girls of upper secondary school. In low income countries like Zimbabwe, less than 2 thirds of girls complete their primary education and only one in three completes lower secondary school according to the UNF statistics. With the outbreak of the Covid-19 these numbers have increased drastically as we have seen most girls at risk of not readmitting back to school meaning as a country we are facing a learning crisis. As alluded by the minister in her report that 5000 teenage girls in Zimbabwe were reported pregnant and these girls are likely not to go back to school.

In light of such statistics imagine currently only 2.6% of humanitarian funds go to education or rather educating girls. Underinvestment in girls’ education means millions of girls for generations to come are faced with a future where they are unable to find productive employment, engage in active citizenship or shape their future and that of their families and communities. A lack of education for girls can also lead to substantial losses in national wealth, teenage pregnancies, drug abuse, disempowerment of girls and women in ways that deprive them of their basic rights.

So as Girlup Zimbabwe we are launching the $1 dollar education fund campaign in a bid to raise funds so as to address the national learning crisis in our country therefore filling the critical gap and prioritizing girls’ education. With your help we can achieve this. We want to support 1000 girls to access learning opportunities
