On Your Bike! Raising funds for Montagne Verte.
On July 21st, I am embarking on a vélo voyage across France and I'm aiming to raise some funds for Montagne Verte whose mission is to provide solutions for mountain residents, visitors, and businesses to minimise their environmental impact and become a sustainable tourism destination.
I've lived in France for ten years. First in Samöens, then in the south around Nice, and I just moved back to Montriond. I work for a helmet technology called Koroyd and have been studying Environmental Science in my spare time.
After initially resisting the lycra movement, over the last couple of years, I started putting more miles in on the tarmac.
This summer, I wanted a bigger challenge so decided to ride across central France from Morzine to Arcachon. 800kms distance, 8000m alt gain in 5 (maybe 6) days (130 to 160kms per day), depending on the cramp situation!
The science is crystal clear, our children's futures depend on this generation transitioning away from fossil fuels (as well as reducing air pollution) and decarbonising the economy. Bikes can play a small part in that.
So I'm getting on mine to raise awareness and hope to raise some funds for MV in the process. If you can ride there, ditch the car. If you can take the train, ditch the plane!
