Olivia Quan Award for Audio Excellence

Donation protected
Olivia Quan was a music producer and audio engineer from Vancouver who passed away unexpectedly on July 1, 2022 at the age of only 25.

She trained at Monarch Studios, Vancouver, straight out of recording school, and over only a few short years became one of the most in-demand engineers in the city. Due to her incredible work ethic and dedication to her craft, Olivia was light years ahead of where she should have been at her age. She attended the 2022 Juno Awards with three projects she worked on nominated, and can only be described as a rising star of Vancouver’s recording scene.

Her technical abilities would be impressive on their own, but Olivia had an incredible gift for connecting with people, making them comfortable, and helping them to capture amazing performances. She was extremely driven and successful in her own career, but also extremely generous with her knowledge. Olivia went way out of her way volunteering her time to teach training engineers and was a mentor and shining example of what is possible when you dedicate yourself to your craft.

The best way we can think of to honour Olivia is to carry on the work she had started by assisting and inspiring people to follow the path that she was on.

Our goal is to create a fund in Olivia's name, to cause future generations of young people pursuing a career in audio to learn from, and be inspired by Olivia's achievements and dedication to her craft.

Fundraising Goal: $25,000 minimum (5 year program), with extraordinary goal of $75,000, which if invested would allow the award to continue for approximately 20 years.

Funds Awarded: $5000/year

Criteria: A successful candidate would embody the characteristics that made Olivia so
exceptional.
• Open to young people age 25 or under from British Columbia, Canada
• Have demonstrated hard work and dedication to the mastery of audio
• Have a clear idea of their goals and how they want to achieve them
• May have obstacles in their way that this award could help reduce
• Extra consideration given to women and other under-represented groups in the industry, but does not exclude any worthy recipients.

Examples of uses of funding could be:
• Scholarship towards audio education and mentorship
• Cost of living expenses while pursuing an audio internship or apprenticeship
• Specific purchases of equipment that would allow one to advance their career
• Travel expenses to attend audio training or events

Selection Process:
Applications will be condensed to the top 10 candidates in any year, and a small group that can include family and people that knew Olivia will choose the final recipient. These people could rotate over time to give others an opportunity to be involved.

Timeline: Announce fall 2022, with award given Apr 2023, so a candidate can use the funds for Sept 2023.

Thank you to everyone who has already donated directly to The Quan Family; the contributions have been incredibly generous, and we are eager to see Olivia's legacy continue. The funds already collected will be combined with those raised through GoFundMe.
