Olivia's Dental Repair

Donation protected
Hey everyone, my name is Olivia Garcia, and in the autumn of 2015, I was riding my moped down the streets of New Orleans and was t-boned at a busy intersection. I had the green light, so I did not expect what was to come. While my body went immediately into shock, then I was taken into God’s light, but with the saving hands of an emergency response team and God's grace, I was resuscitated back to life. I had multiple injuries including a liver laceration, fractured pelvis (though, thank God, not on any weight bearing bones), a broken arm, severe lacerations on my hip, and road rash on my body. However, the most devastating of them all were the multiple fractures in and around my face, from broken eye sockets, sinuses, a broken nose to fracturing my upper jaw and pallet, cuts to the inside of my mouth and a lost tooth from being thrown across a large intersection and landing face down on the street. This was even with wearing a helmet. I have had numerous procedures to correct this seemingly cosmetic error, but am unable to continue to finance this repair. The emotional trauma is also something that has been difficult to deal with.

I am a senior Vocal Performance major at Loyola University New Orleans, and am set to graduate in December of 2017. I thank Loyola for allowing me to walk the stage with my classmates last May, even though I had to leave school to heal, which put me a semester behind. Singing has been a constant in my life, and was what helped me push myself to complete healing of the body, mind and soul. In my time at Loyola I have learned so much about the world of classical music, and have been given countless opportunities to perform in operas. That being said, I found that it is crucial that I am able to continue the repair and replace the tooth completely, as when I sing for audiences or audition there is almost no looking past the large gap in the teeth. This has presented a large issue for me.

In my attempts to replace the tooth, my family has spent thousands upon thousands of dollars to help me, and still have incurred an outstanding balance of approx. $3000. From here, we can no longer have my mouth services, and are in a stuck in a perpetual state of limbo. At this point, to continue the replacement, I have to pay the outstanding balance of $3000, plus $3000 to pay for the remainder of the procedure, plus travel expenses so I can continue to have the same doctors finish the procedure. In the foreseeable future, this is simply not possible.

Today I am asking you for your mercy through a donation to help me finish off this dental replacement, and to close this chapter of my life. I struggle very much in turning to you to help me in this, but I have found it to be the only way as bills upon bills are arriving to my empty hands. I pray every day that perhaps this will be a possibility, and that I may one day start my career in singing, but in the meantime, I can only pray.

If you know me, then you will know that I work very hard, but have incurred some lost time, for the job I worked over summer did not pay for the final 6 weeks of labor that I worked for them, up to the closing of the establishment. This saddened me, as I thought that I would be able to work off my debt, but that is no longer the case.

My goal is to raise $9000 for this all to come to fruition. I need $3000 to pay the outstanding balance, $3000to finish the job and get the final replacement of my tooth, and $3000 to partially repay my family for all the time and money they have given me in this trying time. My goal is to finish the repair by the upcoming Loyola Opera Theatre production of Dialogue of the Carmelites in March 2018. I believe with the help of you all, that this is possible.

Doing this today is not easy for me. For those that know me, they understand that I do not like asking for help, but I am learning that if this is the best you can do, then it is enough. I am here on my hands and knees, asking my dear friends and family, along with the giving community online to help me complete this chapter of my life. I ask that you give what you can, and are comfortable with, and further, I ask for your prayers and good thoughts in my time of convalesces in my body and spirit. Thank you for taking the time to read this, and thank you for your donations. God bless you, and may God guide us through these times where we ask one to take care of another.
