My uncle, Oliver Chin was a young boy of potential. As a youth leader in his hometown, Carcar, Cebu, he was also a prolific volleyball player who represented both his Alma Mater, USJR and the province of Cebu in several competitions. The youngest of eleven siblings eventually graduated college and became an engineer.
The dream of maximising his potential saw him got caught in the diaspora of Filipinos ironically looking for greener pasture in the desert of the Middle East. He succeeded and grew personally and professionally in the land of oil. Everything was smooth sailing until he was diagnosed with Psoriasis.
Psoriasis is a noncontagious, chronic skin condition that produces plaques of thickened, scaling skin. The dry flakes of skin scales result from the excessively rapid proliferation of skin cells. Inflammatory chemicals produced by specialized white blood cells called T-lymphocytes trigger the proliferation of skin cells. Psoriasis commonly affects the skin of the elbows, knees, and scalp. Psoriasis is considered an incurable, long-term (chronic) inflammatory skin condition. It has a variable course, periodically improving or worsening.
However, he did not allow this to deter him. He persisted working in Saudi trying to save up for himself while sharing some of his earnings with his siblings, nephews and nieces. He continually worked abroad for several years without coming home to the Philippines.
Unfortunately, the disease took its toll and brought complications particularly to his kidneys. This caused him numerous admissions to the hospital, even spending several days in the Intensive Care Unit, alone in a hospital far away from love ones home. By God’s grace, he was able to withstand those challenging times and decided to come home.
For almost two years now, he has been painstakingly undergoing regular dialysis with a few admissions to the hospital. However, the dream of finally being freed from this toiling medical routine has come when he was confirmed to be eligible and capable of having a kidney transplant. One of his kind sisters, Gemma has willingly offered to become the kidney donor despite being based in Batangas.
As Tiyo Oliver’s massive savings were easily eroded by the regular dialysis and hospital visits, it is now a humongous challenge for the family to raise at least 1.8 Million Philippine Pesos ($36,000 USD) to finance the said kidney transplant. It is in light of this that we are knocking on your kind hearts to help us raise any amount that will bring Tiyo Oliver closer to freedom. We understand that 1.8 Million Pesos is an arduous mountain to carry. However, if it is shared and broken among good men and women, it will become an easier and possible goal to achieve.
