My Mother's Story

Let me share with you my mother's story...My mother went to the doctor for a regular checkup without experiencing any symptoms or a reason for her to be concerned. At the end of her appointment she realized she had cancer. Over the next few days she would learn that she had stage four metastatic colon cancer which affect her colon and her liver. She went to a local cancer facility that threw a lot of facts at her about treatment and stamped her with a end date. She was determined to get a second opinion so she got in touch with Cancer Treatment Centers of America. Within an hour she had provided them with all of her information and they ended up getting back with her within a couple of days with a scheduled appointment date for her first appointment. Then monthly trips to Chicago started which put a stress on the family budget. Her treatment continues, we've had a few bumps along the way. She had a 10 day stay in a local hospital that was unexpected as well as a long stay at a hospital in southern maine that ended up with surgery that was unexpected. Through this whole process my step father lost his job at the local paper mill impacting the family finances even more. He's doing everything that he can to bring in money for the family but doesn't have a regular job yet. We've accumulated a lot of medical bills with copays, hospital stays and travel. In the fall I will be attending college which will add more stress to the family budget. These funds would help eliminated the stressing on the family and we can focus on recovering from cancer.
