THIS BIKE ALLOWS ME:
1. access through muddy washed out paths in rural third-world countries
2. to keep my hands off of bacteria infested water and dirt
3.to show how people with disabilities can be independent
WHAT
I need an off road handcycle. I don't want an off-road handcycle... I would much rather walk on my own two legs to access hard to reach places this bike makes possible.
I have a dream to challenge the pity and lack of value surrounding those with disabilities. These negative attitudes are especially prevelant in developing countries, places where wheelchairs do not work. This is why I am buying the Explorer III Off-Road Handcycle, to explore these roads less traveled in the desire to change the cycle of abuse and neglect surrounding disabled peoples. I have already traveled to some of these countries, like Uganda and Mexico, and have realized the need for more accessible equipment to reach the places others are not going to.
WHY
The World Bank estimates 20% of people in third-world countries are disabled and are considered the "least valuable" by their own communities. That makes people with disabilities the largest minority in the world. A minority twice as likely to have violent crimes commited against them. A minority with less than 10% school attendance world-wide, and only 33% employment of those capable of work. I want to change these outcomes and erase the stigmas with adaptive sports and education; showing people can do what was thought unachievable!

A little more about the bike-
There are several off-road bikes. Due to the stipulations of the grant I can purchase the Explorer III handcycle. They are made by a parapalegic guy in Poland. Check 'em out!
