FUNDRAISER FOR LINDA VECCHIO'S FUNERAL
Invitation to Bid Final Farewell to
Linda Lee Vecchio
Tentative dates:

Linda Lee Vecchio (1942-2020) was a 7th Degree Shihan and the highest ranking female blackbelt in the United States in Aikido.
She was an amazing teacher whose students loved her. She spent her life teaching others how not just to defend themselves, but how to live life simply and lovingly. She was strong and fierce, but gentle and kind.
Linda is survived by two sons, both of whom do not currently possess the funding necessary to give the her the basic funeral and ceremony she desired, namely: cremation and interment at All Souls Cemetery at 10366 Chardon Road, Chardon, Ohio 44024 where she can join her parents and sister.
Her younger son has arranged a funeral ceremony with Father Chuck Works of Most Holy Trinity Church , 8549 Mayfield Rd, Chesterland, OH 44026 to be held over two days to allow in these unprecedented times for those who wish to pay their respects to do so in accordance with current social distancing and limited numbers as detailed above.
To that end and as one of Vecchio Sensei’s earlier students of several decades ago, I am assisting the family by overseeing the funding distribution of her final rites and farewells.
Funeral ceremony and associated costs are calculated at between $3500 (for basic cremation, urn; transport of ashes NV-OH; open & seal niche; interment, no ceremony) and $6500 (previous plus funeral ceremony; obituary listing; travel-related expenses for elder son – excludes, cards, book, flowers, taxes, unanticipated costs).
Should the fundraising exceed costs, the excess will be donated to an institution fiercely close to Linda’s heart - St Jude Childrens Research Hospital (St Jude's Children's) - in Linda’s name and honour.
St Jude’s mission is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. Consistent with the vision of our founder Danny Thomas, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family's ability to pay. Linda would lament ‘no parent should watch their child die.’
As a follow-up to this fundraising campaign, an accounting of costs and donation (if any) to St Jude’s will be forthcoming.
