“How would you feel if your career was to serve the public? Putting your life on the line daily? Interacting with people you don’t know and have a duty to protect them and it’s snatched away from you?

Not only was I FIRED with out cause after not forcibly resigning. The Rising Sun Township has withheld my pay since October 23rd 2019. Also, the department has attempted to block all unemployment benefits for the past 3 MONTHS!

In retaliation for filing charges against them for racial discrimination, hostile work environment and retaliation.

Moving forward to the treatment I was subjected to below.

I was subjected to being called a “child molester” while #COMMUNITYPOLICING for taking a picture with kids in the community at a middle school homecoming football game that was requested by the coach of the cheerleading team.

I Steffon L Josey was subjected to this treatment from February-October 23rd 2019 until the day of my termination.

October 5th 2019. I felt I needed to break the silence to the public on #hostileworkenvironment in the Police Force. This falls under #Harrassment, #SexualHarrassment that resulted in a hostile work environment. This matter has been filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

The Rising Sun Police Chief made a comment stating “all fun until you end up on a list” in a group text message. In response I ask “ what list?” in response to that. It was mentioned that “a list that no one wants to be on” like “MR. FIELDS”. Mr. fields is a man who lives in town who is a registered SEX offender.

While working for this agency. It was made clear that my race was not in favor in the township of Rising Sun.  “it seems as if I was hired only because I was related to the Chief of Police”  referring the similarities in skin color.

He is a Black Man, I too am a Black Man. My Race, being that I am a Black man in Law Enforcement in this town of (Rising Sun), was made clear to me behind closed doors that there isn’t “many of our kind” here. (Rising Sun, Maryland) being 1 of less than 10 #AfricanAmerican Officers in the entire county of Cecil County Maryland.

The statements made were obvious that I was not welcomed based on my race, being forced to be reminded that my race makes me different compared to  everyone else in the township of Rising Sun Maryland.

Fellow officers relayed Comments were made by the townships Administration stating “ why did you hire that fucking felon here” in regards to my 2013 arrest when I was pardoned by @chrischristie In 2015 on 2c:39-5b unlawful possession of a Firearm which is a second degree felony in the State of New Jersey with a 10 year maximum penalty if convicted.

The township of Rising Sun Maryland is 95.8% WHITE 0.7% AFRICAN AMERICAN. The township of Rising Sun Police Department is one of the oldest municipalities in the State Of Maryland.

I am the third African American employed by this Police Agency since the towns incorporation in 1860.
