On friday night July 28th, my husband Aaren Oeswein had a horrific accident with a lawn mower. He was cutting the grass while our kids, 4 yr old Maggie and 3 yr old Ashten were outside playing. He went to turn off the lawn mower and when it didn't shut off he turned it over to look for the problem and his hand slipped and got caught in the blade.  His fingers were completely shredded beyond repair and our kids witnessed this and all of the gory aftermath. Thankfully we have amazing neighbors who saved his life and got E.M.S there, notified me while I was at work and tried to distract and comfort our traumatized kids. Aaren had to have emergency hand surgery at Jewish Hospital where what was left of his index, middle and ring finger on his left hand had to be amputated. His pinky finger tip was partially amputated as well. His thumb and Palm of his hand were  (Thank God) not severely damaged. He is now recovering at home. Although he is in extreme pain and suffering, we are so very thankful he's alive and that the accident was not any worse.  However, unfortunately his career as a painter/ contractor where he obviously relies on the function of his hands is quite possibly over. We relied pretty heavily and solely on his income to pay our bills, paycheck to paycheck and now the realization that we will be without his income is leaving us with extreme uncertainty and stress. I do have a job as a waitress and I also am taking on a second job as soon as possible and plan to work as much as I physically can to get us through this. Our kids were starting preschool in August and our plan to pay that tuition that's due this week is not going to happen and it's all very disheartening. Aaren has a long road of recovery ahead. Eventually physical therapy will hopefully help him learn to use his new hand but in the meantime he needs to rest and heal to fully recover. We have a lot to figure out for our future as this accident completely changes the path of our lives.  We will endure and persevere and do anything and everything we can to make sure our family is taken care of with life's necessities. We have always been fighters and we will never give up.  We are not the type to ask for help but without his income we have no idea how we can make all these ends meet and we are in dire straits right now, we are scared for our future and the medical bills that will be coming our way. This is so hard for us, we hate to accept any help but we have to accept that we really truly need it now. Please do not feel obligated, please don't judge us, and please know we are so grateful for all the love, support and prayers that we have already received. It truly means the world to us and all the love we receive we will always pay it forward and be eternally grateful. ❤❤❤
