Dear Family and Friends,
Our parents, Jesus and Juana Torres, were involved in a serious car accident on February 28, in New Mexico. Mom was released from the hospital four days later with fractured ribs and a fractured collar bone. Dad is still in the hospital and will be there for at least three weeks. He is recovering from fractured ribs, a fractured eye socket, and a fractured vertebrae. He also has two lacerations on his head and one on his finger. On Tuesday, Dad will have surgery for his fractured vertebrae. They will place two screws to stabilize the bones. Considering his heart condition, there has been considerable debate between the neurosurgeon and cardiologist over whether the surgery is even a possibility. There is concern that the surgery could leave him paralyzed; the doctors made a compromise and the surgery will take place, but with some changes to his current medication. Regardless, all of this requires a lengthy hospital stay in the ICU in Lubbock, Texas. We are currently taking turns in Texas with our parents. To pay the long list of hospital and lodging bills, we are already making many financial sacrifices. Yet, that still won’t be enough.
