Hi Everyone, my name is Karla. I am a 32 year Young Mommy of 3 beautiful little girls who on January 27th 2012 received what I thought was the worst news I could ever hear. I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Melanoma on my scalp.
By the time testings and such were complete, I went in for my first surgery on March 26th. After 7 hours in surgery they had finally cut all cancer from my scalp and removed most of the lymph nodes behind my ear and neck on the right side. After waiting a week to hear the results, I went back in for Reconstructive surgery on my head on April 2nd. During this procedure they took a skin graft from my right hip and used it to cover the softball sized hole in my head.
5 weeks post op I was feeling pretty good and healing well. Went back to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center for my PET Scan check up and received devastating news May 16th (my 3 year olds birthday of all days) My Cancer entered my blood stream and is now in my Lungs, Liver and Bones. While I was told there is a low success rate, there is still a chance. I have told doctors death is not an option, my children need me and I will fight this out to the very end.
My treatments start next week and will consist of Chemo for 3 weeks, the either IL-2 or ipilimumab. (doctors still deciding)
I Started this page to help with travel to and from appointments, medications, nurse care, and childcare I will be paying for someone to watch my girls while Im hospitalized for infusions. And to also cover the unpaid medical bills my insurance has not covered. As of now they total over $6,000 with new bills arriving weekly.
I a m remaining optimistic that I will fight and hopefully beat this and id like to thank everyone who has been supportive, sending prayers and helping in any way <3 My Girls and I appreciate you all <3
