12 Hour Triathlon for Ukraine

I will be undertaking a 12-hour triathlon: 3-hour run, 4-hour swim, and a 5-hour bike ride on June 10th, 2022, to help raise money for those individuals and families affected by the Ukraine war. All proceeds will benefit the Spanish Red Cross (Cruz Roja España). More than 20,000 Ukrainians have been helped by the Spanish Red Cross so far, and the organization is looking to increase its capacity. Any donation - no matter how big or how small - will make an impact.

Why now? Because the effects of this war will be felt for decades, long after the news outlets stop reporting it. Even now, as the number of outlets and stories decreases, there are still individuals suffering. In moments like these, people can feel forgotten, abandoned, and hopeless. Acting in times like these can make a world a difference. I've also had the pleasure of meeting many Ukranians throughout my life. From my swim coach, to my schoolmates, to my work colleagues. They posses a beautiful culture and a great outlook on life. I still carry the lessons I've learned and the memories I've made with them today.

From an outsider's perspective, it's tough to know what to do in situations like these. Perhaps the best we can do is offer them a helping hand and be there in any way we can. That's why I believe donating to charities helping those the families affected and displaced by the war is essential. Hence, my choice for the Spanish Red-Cross.

A donation could go a long way to help people who need it right now:
  • £5 could provide 600 chlorine tablets to ensure that families have access to clean, safe water
  • £10 could provide a hygiene kit to a family of five, giving them supplies to stay healthy for a month
  • £20 could provide five blankets to families taking shelter
  • £100 could provide sleeping mats to 66 people who have been forced from their homes
  • £210 could provide a fully equipped first aid kit, including supplies, to a first aider treating the wounded
More information about the Spanish Red Cross's involvement in Ukraine:
Through its Ukraine Crisis Unit, the Spanish Red Cross provides immediate life-saving aid to those displaced Ukrainian citizens, and it's also ensuring their long-term needs are met.

The focus of this crisis center in Madrid is twofold. Firstly, to ensure the coverage of basic needs like food, clothing and accommodation; secondly, to enhance personal skills to ensure that refugees can live an independent life once they are relocated in Spain.
