I am a somewhat productive person who happens to have spent the hast 43 years adapting to Optic Nerve Hypoplasia. My optic nerve never fully developed so I am legally blind. Yes I can see, just not nearly as well as someone with 20/20 vision can. I have not let that stop me from living. I work at a museum and enjoy my job a lot. I have even made a few movies. I have gotten the chance to drive a horse drawn carriage, forge a nail on an anvil that is over 200 years old and I spend a lot of time introducing people to the history and culture of my home state.
I discovered these glasses called NuEyes a while back and am just now getting up the nerve to set up a campaign. The glasses use a high definition camera and two HD screens to allow someone like me bring objects in close without actually having to get physically close.
In order for me to read most things, I need to be two inches away from them. Weather it be a book, computer screen or a cellphone, it makes no difference.
These glasses will help me read everything better from a newspaper to a street sign. I can't read a street sign unless I am really close. Many times I can't even read a street sign at all. With the NuEyes glasses I was able to read a street sign from 6 feet away.
With these glasses I will be able to see things at a distance that I would not actually be able to see without binoculars. I can sit in the back of a meeting room and still have the opportunity to see the speaker in the front. I could sit at a distance at a play or a concert and really get to see the performance.
The only problem is the price. I don't have a problem with the company needing to make a profit. People who innovate should be rewarded for that innovation. The technology in these glasses isn't cheap and the only way to lower the cost is to get these glasses into the hands of more consumers like me. I just don't have $6,000.00.
These glasses will change my life.
