The older I have gotten the less I like to ask for help, pride and pure stubborness tends to get me through.
However, yesterday morning (Dec 8. 2017) we got the call that my mother in law passed away. This was a shock and devastating to us as just a couple days prior we had spoken with her, talking about the visit she had planned.
She had spoken at length with each of our children about all the things they would do while Gramdma was here. She was in good spirits and we were thinking about the logistics of time off from work, and what we would do while she was visiting to make the most of the time.
But now we are talking to the funeral home and calling airlines, asking local friends to look after the kids, while we travel from Arizona to Ohio to sort through and clear out her home and take care of all the other horribly mundane things that you have to take care of when a loved one dies.
Something we certainly were not prepared for is how much money is costs those left behind when a loved one passes. Even draining our savings, we will be eating into credit cards to manage everything. We have already canceled a large ticket order, and are looking at a rather sparse Christmas for our kids which sucks, but we are hopeful that we can pick up some over-time after we get back so we can try to make up for some of the lost wages, and defray some of the costs.
This was something I wasn't super keen to post, as both my husband (only child) and I feel is our responsibily. But the sad reality is this is going to put a huge strain on us financially at a time when we are already very strained emotionally.
Anything will be a help, even if all you can spare is prayers and good thoughts.
