NSO Conductor Derek Williams - 40th Anniversary

I am one of many musicians from the East Midlands who have had the privilege of making music with the Nottingham Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Conductor & Music Director, Derek Williams.

 

Derek became the Conductor of the NSO back in 1983 and he has been a major force in the Nottingham classical music scene ever since. He has conducted more than 120 varied NSO classical music concerts, giving the opportunity to many local musicians to rehearse and perform to a high standard, and enriching the musical culture of Nottingham and the surrounding areas. Under Derek's baton, the NSO has had the opportunity to perform with many well-known local and international soloists including Clare Hammond, Braimah Kanneh-Mason and Nicola Benedetti.

 

The 2022-23 season is fast approaching, and this will mark Derek's 40th Anniversary of conducting the NSO - a remarkable achievement. The Orchestra is hoping to mark this occasion by putting on a special celebratory and spectacular concert in 2023 at the Albert Hall, Nottingham, involving an Orchestra of 100, a chorus of 120, with extra brass, percussion and the Albert Hall organ. This will however incur fairly substantial additional costs to the NSO compared with our standard events.

 

I am hoping to reach out to current and former members of the NSO, to the Friends of NSO, to family, friends, other musicians, to those who have attended and enjoyed previous NSO concerts, and to those who just love classical music.

 

I would like to ask you to consider joining me in making a donation to the Nottingham Symphony Orchestra to help make the 2022-23 season as special as possible to pay tribute to Derek. Every donation will help! The NSO is a charity so if you are a UK taxpayer, the NSO will receive an extra 25p for every £1 that you donate via Gift Aid.
