Julie Ann Alfred is a 34-year-old, single mom of 3 kiddos - Jazra (17), Kylie (9), and Jaxon (3). She stays busy taking amazing care of her kiddos, working her 40+ hours per week, and maintaining her home and wrangling pets, while still finding the time to be an amazing daughter, sister, and friend. To know her is to love her. She's outspoken, caring, giving, and incredibly passionate about the things that matter most.
In 2016, shortly after being diagnosed with cancerous tumors in her lymph nodes, she found out she was pregnant with her son. She managed to juggle her treatments with all her prenatal appointments and was fortunately cancer-free before Jaxon's birth in May 2017.
Fast forward to fall of 2019 - she had her yearly follow up scan and was told that she now had cancerous tumors on her thyroid. She had a couple of rounds of radiation therapy and was placed on oral chemotherapy. At the start of 2020, she was once again, cancer-free.
This past July, Julie went in for a six month follow up where it was discovered that she now has cancer again - for the THIRD time. This time on her vocal cords. She completed a scope this week where they discovered more tumors than were originally seen on the initial scan. To battle this, they've told her she'll be looking at several rounds of radiation and chemo. They're optimistic that this will help her avoid having to undergo surgery.
For anyone that's witnessed the effects of any cancer treatment - you'll know that while attempting to rid the body of cancer, it also wears the body down. Leaves most people sick, exhausted, obliterates the immune system making them much more susceptible to every other illness, and sometimes nearly unable to function. Adding to the stress of knowing what's coming in the weeks and months ahead, her employer recently changed insurance providers and the new insurance will not cover anywhere near as much as the previous medical insurance did, leaving her with a lot of medical bills.
Through all of the curve balls that life has thrown at her - Julie always prevails. This woman has seen and faced things head-on that most couldn't imagine. But she is nearly unstoppable, a force to be reckoned with, and will always go to bat for those that she loves. And now it's time for us to step up and be there for her. The purpose of this GFM is to raise some money to help Julie with the medical bills while allowing her to take some time off if and when necessary to recover from treatments and not have to worry about how the household bills will get paid in the event that she's unable to work.
