Nottingham Medics' Musical 2023: RENT

Every year the fourth-year medical students at the University of Nottingham stage a musical production - this year's chosen musical is RENT! As well as highlighting some of our brightest star performers, the musical is all planned, stage-managed, produced, and directed by the students.

We are all very excited at the prospect of the musical and have already begun rehearsals following our casting process. For us, the musical presents a brilliant opportunity for students to engage in a creative pursuit outside of medicine, allowing us to socialise and connect whilst utilising a range of skills to build something fun to present to the whole university community (and anyone else who wants to come!). Additionally, the musical presents a much-needed opportunity to help bring together students who are assigned across different campuses, hospitals, and cities following a period of mostly remote-based learning.

Much like our characters (no spoilers), we do need to pay (theatre) rent - and licensing fees! We massively appreciate any help our fellow students, families, friends, and alumni can provide to help us to bring our hard work to life, and every little helps, from putting the strings on Roger's guitar to providing the matches for Mimi's candle.

The musical will take place in Spring 2023 at the Nottingham Arts Theatre.
