Kristi and Aaron: A Story of Romance and Tragedy

Aaron and Kristi Norberg (nee Hochachka) were married only months before Kristi started noticing a change in Aaron physically and cognitively. He had headaches, was forgetful, gained weight and was tired all the time. What started out as signs of depression according to physicians, eventually was diagnosed as Craniopharyngioma; a deep brain tumour near his pituitary gland encasing his optic nerve. In September 2010, nine days after diagnosis, he underwent his first brain surgery.
The surgeons hoped that they got it all, but as a result of the surgery, his pituitary gland no longer functioned and he would require massive amounts of medications for the rest of his life in order for his body to keep functioning. He was never the same again, but was alive and had his sight. It was a bitter sweet victory. Aaron continued to have a positive outlook, even after breaking his back in 5 places playing with his two boys; a result of the medications he takes.

After radiation, it was discovered that removing the tumour actually seeded many new ones and that they were starting to grow. This was particularly devastating as they thought the tumours were now behind them. In May 2012, Aaron had another neurosurgery to remove some of the new tumours.
March 2013 produced more shocking news.... the original tumour has come back to his optic nerve area. Now facing yet another extensive brain surgery and the possibility of losing his sight, Aaron and Kristi's positive outlook and hopes are wavering but their love has continued to solidify.

Aaron and Kristi are facing mounting financial burdens from the travel and medical expenses. As friends and family of Aaron and Kristi we would like to show our support and love, and honor the courage and strength that they have shown throughout this ordeal. Fundraising events are being planned and details of these will follow. Please support the family through hope, financial aid and your prayers.
